Stoudt Named Starter for Week 2 Game Versus Southern Illinois

Today in his usual Monday press conference, Ole Miss head coach Houston Nutt let reporters know that Zach Stoudt would be the starting man for his Rebels this Saturday in the second game of the season. Ole Miss hosts Southern Illinois at 5:00 in Vaught-Hemingway Stadium Saturday.

Stoudt took most of the snaps for the Rebels in their loss at home against the Brigham Young Cougars two days ago. Barry Brunetti had the start for the season opener against BYU and played most of the first half, but lost his job to Stoudt late in the second quarter. The other quarterback, Randall Mackey was suspended for off the field issues, and we should see some of Mackey this week against the Sullukis of Southern Illinois.

Besides the complete and utter disappointment that came with the one-point loss to BYU, there is more bad news here in Oxford that came from last weekend.

Senior Running-backs Brandon Bolden and Enrique Davis both went out with injuries in game one, and their return to the field for Ole Miss is not exactly known at this time. From what I have heard, Bolden has a slight fracture in his left foot, but that is all talk from people around campus. So I am not sure on either of them at the moment. Jeff Scott and Devan Thomas will clearly get the majority of the carries this weekend in what should be an easy-win for the Rebs.

Many are bitter about the loss against BYU, but here’s the deal. Let’s put that behind us as Rebels and move forward. There is nothing crying about it can do for us, so just stop. The Rebels will have an easy win this week at home against S.Illinois, then they have to buckle down for when Georgia comes to town in two weeks. Let’s give our Rebels the support they deserve. We still have a long way to go until the season’s end and with our support and belief in the Red & Blue, the Ole Miss Rebels can easily do great things.

Stoudt’s the starter this week, but don’t be surprised if Randall Mackey makes his debut for the Rebels at some point Saturday.See you in Vaught-Hemingway Stadium, at 5:00 when the Rebels host Southern Illinois.

That’s all I have this time. Hotty Toddy.
